Method of Pathogen Control
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a method for controlling plant pathogens by applying a composition containing at least one di-rhamnolipid (specifically C10-C12 and/or C10-C12:1 di-rhamnolipids) to plants or seeds. The invention provides an alternative to synthetic pesticides by using these naturally derived biosurfactants to prevent or reduce infections from a wide array of pathogens, notably nematodes (such as Heterodera schachtii), fungi, bacteria, insects, oomycetes, and viruses. Di-rhamnolipids can be applied directly to plants, roots, leaves, or seeds through watering, spraying, or seed coating, offering effective protection and reduced environmental impact.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Seed treatment to protect crops (such as sugar beet, soybean, tomato, potato, barley, maize, rice, wheat, etc.) from infection by nematodes, fungi, bacteria, and viruses.
- Soil or foliar application of di-rhamnolipid compositions for integrated pest management in agriculture.
- Replacement or reduction of synthetic chemical nematicides and pesticides in crop cultivation.
- Organic or eco-friendly agriculture needing biocontrol solutions with low toxicity.
- Protection of greenhouse and field-grown plants against a broad spectrum of pathogens.
- Improving crop yields and quality by reducing pathogen-induced losses.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Reduces reliance on synthetic pesticides and nematicides, which can harm non-target organisms and persist in the environment.
- Di-rhamnolipids are biodegradable and have low toxicity, making them environmentally friendly and safe for humans and beneficial organisms.
- Effective against a broad range of plant pathogens, including nematodes, fungi, bacteria, oomycetes, insects, and viruses.
- Improves sustainability and supports integrated pest management or organic farming practices.
- Applicable through various methods (seed coating, watering, spraying) to suit different farming systems.
- May enhance crop yield and quality by controlling difficult pathogens.
- Can help address regulatory restrictions and bans on hazardous synthetic agrochemicals.

Patent Abstract
The present invention relates to methods for pathogen control, comprising providing a composition comprising at least one di-rhamnolipid and contacting a plant with an effective amount of said composition such that the pathogen is controlled. In an embodiment, the di-rhamnolipid is a C10-C12 di-rhamnolipid, or a C10-C12:1 di-rhamnolipid, or a combination thereof, wherein the amount of the at least one di-rhamnolipid present in the composition is at least 10% by weight, based on the total weight of all rhamnolipids present in the composition. The present invention further pertains to a plant seed coated with a composition comprising at least one di-rhamnolipid.
